This tutorial will show you how to create a Sniper Elite v3 Dedicated Server on Windows that up to 12 players can join and play multiplayer. The example config used will be how to setup a no-crossing maps only server. However, there are many other example configs that come with the SEv3 Dedicated Server files.

SEv3 Dedicated Server is for Windows only. There is currently no Linux version.

Note: The ideal Windows server is one that you rent from a hosting provider that specializes in providing hosted multiplayer games. You can use these instructions to install a SEv3 Dedicated Server on your home PC but the internet connection is not designed to support more than 6 players and their performance in-game would not be anywhere near as good if the server were hosted on the backbone of the Internet as all the gaming providers servers are. With that said, there are currently many Game Service Providers offering SEv3 MP servers for very cheap. This tutorial is for those, like me, that like to set it all up yourself.

First step is to install the Steam Console Client or SteamCMD. On your C:\ drive (or wherever you wish, of course). I created C:\SteamCMD, for instance. Then you need to get the SteamCMD client from here. You will download a ZIP file. Place this file in the newly created C:\SteamCMD folder. Extract the ZIP to the C:\SteamCMD folder. You will see in the folder an executable named steamcmd.exe. Double click to install SteamCMD. A console window will open and after a few update checks it stops at the command prompt looking like: Steam> You can now close this window.

Next, we will install the SEv3 dedicated server files. In the folder C:\SteamCMD create a new folder called sev3. This is where we will direct the SEv3 dedicated server files in to. Let's create a "batch" file that we can double click not only to install the SEv3 server files but also will be used every time an update is pushed out for SEv3. In the folder C:\SteamCMD right click in that folder and create a text file. Rename this text file to sev3server.bat. Right click sev3server.bat and select Edit. Copy & paste this code and save the batch file:

Code:
steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir C:\SteamCMD\sev3 +app_update 266910 validate +quit

Double-click the batch file and a console window opens and begins downloading the sev3 dedicated server files. Once complete, navigate to folder C:\SteamCMD\sev3\Docs\ExampleConfigs. All configs that you use must be placed in the C:\SteamCMD\sev3 folder. For this exercise we'll copy NoCross_Hardcore.cfg and HardcoreSettings.cfg to the C:\SteamCMD\sev3 folder. While in the C:\SteamCMD\sev3 folder let's set up the server for how we like it. Open NoCross_Hardcore.cfg. Here is how my no-cross hardcore servers are setup. Feel free to copy my code:

Code:
Server.Name Christian Snipers =CS= No-Cross Hardcore
Server.MoTD Visit us at ChristianSnipers.com God Bless!

Settings.MaxPlayers 12
Settings.MaxLatency 999

Rcon.Password abcd1234

server.allowsettingsvoting 0
Settings.DefaultScoreLimit 0
Settings.DefaultTimeLimit 25

Server.AddTimedText Welcome! Visit us at www.ChristianSnipers.com
Server.AddTimedText John 3:16 | www.NeedGod.com
Server.AddTimedText Use of Profanity may result in a kick/ban
Server.AddTimedText =CS=TS3 IP: 208.167.246.90:9987
Server.TimedTextInterval 1

MapRotation.AddMap HELLFIRE! NC tl=25
MapRotation.AddMap "GHOST TOWN" NC tl=25

exec HardcoreSettings.cfg

Lobby.StartTimer 30

Server.Host

Let me explain some of the settings that I have that are different from the stock provided config. First, add a RCON password to the config. You will need this password to admin your server while in-game (I created a tutorial for that already). Next, I recommend setting the voting to 0. This is just a preference of mine to keep rogue groups from vote kicking your server visitors. Next see the timed messages that will display in the chat area every 1 minute. Then the two maps listed are the only no-cross maps available that is why only two maps in the rotation. Then you see the config HardcoreSettings.cfg is called. You can edit the settings in that config to suit your taste. Our lobby time is only 30 seconds versus the default 90. Finally, the last command in the config should be Server.Host.

Finally the last stage - starting your server! If you use a Windows server for gaming then you already have something to launch your game server(s). I use Firedaemon.

The SEv3 server executable is located in the C:\SteamCMD\sev3\bin folder.

This is my command line to launch the server:
Code:
Sniper3CLI.exe -IP=208.167.246.90 -exec nocross.cfg

One last item for consideration - firewall. If you have Windows firewall turned on then you will need to open the four ports required for the game server to be seen & connected to from the internet. In your game server console window you can type the following commands to get the ports it is using:

> server.gameport
27015
> server.authport
8766
> server.lobbyport
27010
> server.updateport
27016

Keep in mind that if you add additional servers they will need different ports which will need to also be opened in the firewall. I will save that for another tutorial after Rebellion fixes a dedi server issue that will not allow for using multi-homed IPs for the gameservers. Currently, if you want to add additional game servers you must use the same IP that you used for the first server.

If you have any questions feel free to visit our website or add me on Steam.

EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!

Thanks for taking the time to do this!
I'd run an SEV2 server before but using the old HLDS Tool. I hadn't used the SteamCMD yet... so your instructions were very straight-forward and well put and I'm happy to say you made the setup of the new SEV3 server we have quite easy for me.

God bless!!!!

I've searched for this information elsewhere on these forums and unfortunately have had zero luck.

Would you or anyone happen to know if it's possible to toggle the 4 new items in SEV3 vs SEV2? I've tried various server.xxx commands to no avail to toggle these items:

- Flint
- rocks
- bandage
- medkit

I'd like to be able to enable/disable these items just like all the other items if possible

Thanks!

Have you tried instead using the "Create Game" option in the MP menu and see if you can join?

You may have to set a different join port on your game shortcut on your PC to be able to play on the same Dedicated console server running on the same machine but I could not find any port related shortcut commands for SEv3.

For instance, in Call of Duty games if you are hosting the game server you simply add to your game (playing one) shortcut +net_port 28999 (or whatever port is different from the game server you are running).

Works fine for me - see the pic below. I started a dedicated server on my Windows 8.1 desktop then found it in the server list under Player Hosted.

Make sure you are using valid version of the game. Cracked versions will not work and of course not supported.

I plan on renting a SE3 server. Where can I find all the server config settings?

Thanks

Thanks. Now is there a way to force a TDM game to start with only myself in the lobby? I want to check my settings, etc......

You may need to double check firewall rules. Make sure all the ports are open that its needs or it may not be talking to the master server.

Welcome
Is it possible to set the priority on a dedicated server entry for members of the clan?
If so, you can use the command prompt what?

The SEv3 dedicated server does not have reserved slots, unfortunately.
